Actor-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut shared a cryptic post hinting at Alia Bhatt’s recently released film, Jigra. In the post, Kangana spoke about the downfall of ‘women-centric cinema’ and why such films often fail at the box office. She shared her thoughts on Instagram on Friday.
Kangana’s post read, “When you destroy women-centric films and make sure that they don’t work, they don’t work, even when you make them. Read that again. Thanks (sic).”
Here’s her post here:
Although Kangana did not mention any names, her post is speculated to be aimed at the Alia Bhatt-starrer, which had a modest opening at the box office on Friday. According to industry tracking site Sacnilk, the film earned approximately Rs 3.58 crore (net) across all languages in India on its first day.
The film also failed to impress and connect with audiences and reviewers across.
India Today’s review of the film read, “Jigra could have been a much better film if the story wasn’t so linear. As an audience, you want to be invested in a revenge drama. Bala starts the film alright, but in no time it starts looking like a one-dimensional exercise to build and create big moments around his lead actress. The brother-sister angle around which the crux of the entire film hangs is so feeble that it doesn’t take too long for the thread to break.”
Helmed by Vasan Bala, Jigra also stars Vedang Raina in a key role.
